Our story

Back in August 2018 in SeaTac WA, family and friends came to our home to celebrate my 50th birthday. It was a great day with halibut and chips on the menu. People asked "Why are you cooking, it's your birthday?"

But I love frying fish. I love to eat it, and even eat it cold from the refrigerator the next day (I know weird right?) But the fish is firm and delicious and the homemade tartar sauce can't be beat!

When we moved to Idaho in November 2020, we couldn't find fish and chips like the ones we loved and so in 2023 the journey began when we started building our first food trailer.  I say first because we are already saying like the line from JAWS, "We're gonna need a bigger boat!" When you start a business, you never know how it will turn out. We prayed and planned and dreamed and God has blessed us, but starting out it's hard to make too big of an investment, so we started small, with a little cheap horse trailer.  The boat image design came after the name was chosen. My wife Brenda said why don't we name it with a biblical theme? Right Side of the Boat Fish'N'Chips seemed like a long name, but it grew on me and people still ask as they did from the beginning, "Why don't you call it Starboard?' :) but we tell them John 21:5-6. The disciples fished all night and caught nothing, Jesus called to them, "Friends, don't you have any fish?" They said no, Jesus said, "Cast your net to the right side of the boat and you find some" and when they did, they couldn't bring the net in from such a large number of fish. (The point of that story, trust what Jesus says!)

We opened February 16th 2024 and have enjoyed meeting all of our customers and all the while learning how to improve the process. (They say the first year is just about trying to get good at the food trailer business)

We serve coastal style fish n chips, lightly breaded, like we enjoyed back in Seattle and we get our fish and now also shrimp from a local Seattle based distributor called Ocean Beauty which is known for their quality.
